A social media post is circulating after a Hilo resident said he witnessed a tense confrontation between an adult man and a minor at a downtown McDonald’s, sparking concern among residents about safety in the area.
Witness Describes Scene
According to the post shared in a local Facebook group, the man who witnessed the incident said he saw a man and woman, who he believed to be a couple, become involved in what he described as a scuffle with a child.
He said the man appeared willing to take the confrontation outside and fight the child. The witness said the child had just purchased a drink and was walking out of the restaurant when the man called out the child’s name, suggesting the two may have known each other or had some prior connection.
The witness said the child later came back inside to report what happened, but by that time the man and woman had already left, making it difficult to identify them. In his post, the witness expressed frustration over the incident, saying the community needs to do more to protect its keiki, the Hawaiian word for children.
No injuries were reported, and it remains unclear what led to the confrontation or whether the man and child knew each other beforehand. Police have not confirmed whether a report was filed in connection with the incident.
